Major past activities
UNOY has built capacities of youth for more than 2 decades. You will find below a non-exhaustive selection of the main activities and projects implemented recently:
2009 Study Session with the Council of Europe on Gender Equality in Youth Peacebuilding Projects
- Promote Gender awareness among European Youth organisations on including a gender perspective in their projects.
- Promote awareness on gender inequality and gender discrimination.
- Exchange experiences in developing gender sensitive activities and projects.
2008- 2009 Four gender trainings for youth led (peace) organisations.
- Promote awareness on the gender inequality and gender discrimination.
- Training skills in developing gender sensitive activities and projects.
2008 – present: 3 workshops yearly on peacebuilding and project management for African Diaspora organisations.
2008 Study Session with the Council of Europe on the applicability of peacebuilding in Youth work.
- Promote the engagement of youth and youth organisations in peacebuilding efforts
- Promote cooperation between youth working for peace
- Exchange experiences in peace building and conflict transformation among youth with different cultural and educational backgrounds
- Explore the applicability of peacebuilding theories and practices in various cultural settings and different types of conflict
2008 African Youth in Motion for Peace” Capacity-Building and Networking Event, Kenya
- Develop and implement skills, methods and tools in peacebuilding in order to analyse and deal with the inter- and intra- personal, community and organisational, cultural, social and political dimensions of conflict and peace
- Develop and implement organisational knowledge and skills concerning project management, fundraising and advocacy in the participants’ organisations and local activities
- Improve and apply networking skills with multiplying effects among members, affiliates, and other actors active in the UNOY Peacebuilders’ African network.
- Increase sustainability of organisations and identify ways to develop joint projects at local and national levels, specifically in the African region
2007 European Building Peace Skills Training Seminar, Netherlands
- Promote active citizenship
- Promote tolerance and Dialogue (inter-faith/cultural)
- Foster mutual understanding
- Develop the project management skills to initiate youth projects on their own
- Promote European cooperation between youth.
- To learn about the ethical frameworks of the Earth Charter and the Culture of Peace and to analyse conflicts in day-to-day life situations.
2005-2010(twice each year) Building Peace Skills, The Netherlands
- Promote active citizenship in the Netherlands
- Promote tolerance and Dialogue (inter-faith/cultural)
- Develop project management skills to initiate youth projects on their own
- To learn about the ethical frameworks of the Earth Charter and the Culture of Peace and to analyse conflicts in day-to-day life situations.
2003-present development of six Toolkits and Publications, The Netherlands/Global
2000- present African Conference, The Netherlands
- Promote active citizenship in African countries and the Netherlands
- Promote tolerance among youth effected by conflicts
- Foster mutual understanding between Diaspora, Dutch and African youth and students
- To explore and learn about underlying dynamics behind conflict on the African Continent. (The theme changes yearly, but includes conflict transformation, media, gender etc.)
