Advocacy and Campaigning Programme
UNOY Peacebuilders is actively working on advocacy. What is it?
Advocacy is the act of pleading or arguing in favor of something, such as a cause, idea, or policy and is an ongoing dynamic process.
UNOY Peacebuilders advocates for the role of youth in peacebuilding, and more specifically to promote the visibility and recognition of youth active in peacebuilding, promote partnership between young peacebuilders and other stakeholders, involve youth in campaigning for a culture of peace, encourage them to voice their opinions and concerns in forums.
UNOY Peacebuilders is targeting all levels of decision making, including the local, national, regional, and international level.
For instance, UNOY Peacebuilders has a consultative status at the Economical and Social Council of the United Nations. Representatives of UNOY Peacebuilders can then advocate during conferences or summits organized by the UN. In February 2011, our representative advocated for peace education at the UN headquarters in Geneva.
UNOY is also a founder member of the Global Youth Movement of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (GYMAOC). UNOY attended the first convention of the GYMAOC, which took place in Baku, Azerbaijan, in April.
In addition, UNOY Peacebuilders includes advocacy modules during its capacity building trainings.
Campaigning refers to raising awareness through gatherings, public activities and PR-campaigns amongst the general public on issues of concern to the members of the network. In this respect, UNOY Peacebuilders focuses on issues relating to the role of youth in peacebuilding, with the aim of motivating the youth in particular to take action.
Between 2001 and 2010, UNOY has actively supported the UN International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence for the Children of the World and was part of the team of youth organizations that wrote the end of Decade report.
