1. Message from the Editor

Dear Friends,

I am pleased to present you the February 2012 Peace It Together edition. In this edition, I am happy to share our success on the Peace Seminar: Educating for Peace. Despite unpleasant weather conditions, 80 participants showed their interest in the given presentations and workshops.

UNOY Peacebuilders is also happy to share the outcome from the International Steering Group (ISG) meeting. UNOY Peacebuilders’ coordinators Matilda Flemming and Imke van der Velde were present at the annual meeting, together with the ISG-members Nikki Delfin (Philippines), Paula Ramirez Diazgranados (Colombia), Hovhannes Grigoryan (Armenia) and Rahel Weldeab (Eritrea).

Furthermore, UNOY Peacebuilders has recently launched a publication called Youth Participation through Virtual and Intercultural Dialogue, which is a final output of our ‘Youth Participation through Virtual and Intercultural Dialogue’ project facilitated in July 2011 in Schoorl, the Netherlands.

I wish you a pleasant time while reading our articles of the newest issue of Peace It Together Newsletter.

Peaceful regards,

Lenka Valacsaiova,

Editor

Educating for a culture of peace

A culture of peace is something that every one can embrace, irrespective to where they come from or which nationality they hold. Peace education has been a vital part of the work of the UN ever since their establishment in 1945. The UN realizes that peace education is the means to achieve the goals set in the UN Charter. Especially the UN bodies UNESCO and UNICEF have take action to promote peace education around the world…
