Job shadowing project in Kenya
One of the major projects of UNOY Peacebuilders in 2011 was the ‘Learning by seeing, seeing by doing’ job shadowing project. This project helped to improve international cooperation between 10 youth-led network organisations from around the world and to strengthen their capacity. These organisations have a unique chance to send their young leaders to another organisation to follow their activities for a week and bring the expertise to their home environments.
The Kenya Youth Foundation (KYF), a member of UNOY Peacebuilders’ network, aims to implement a multiplier effect in the Job shadowing project. KYF intends to start peace clubs in schools in Nairobi, Kenya in early 2012 and to share success stories on peace clubs among the Job shadowing project’ members. The ideas will be shared through a sensitization meeting with the partner schools. KYF has initially started the peace clubs in 5 schools in 2011.
The ‘Learning by seeing, seeing by doing’ project comes with the financial support from Youth in Action of the European Commission. The Youth in Action programme has been launched in 2007 and is it aims to inspire a sense of active citizenship, solidarity and tolerance among young Europeans and to involve them in shaping the Union’s future. It promotes mobility within and beyond the EU borders, non-formal learning and intercultural dialogue, and encourages the inclusion of all young people, regardless of their educational, social and cultural background.
