On 4 February the UNOY gender officer gave an internal capacity building session on gender based violence (GBV). This led to a general debate on gender based violence – what it is, who are the victims, who are the perpetrators, and what is being done to decrease the staggering numbers. One in three women will at some point in their life experience some form of violence against them. The group of participants, compromising about eight people, discussed different forms of violence and how it should be dealt with. The purpose of the session was to remind people to continue putting GBV on the agenda, and to also give participants some tools for how to start a GBV discussion or include a module on it during a training they might give. All participants were given a list of resources and further reading after the session.
