This year, UNOY Peacebuilders celebrates our 20th Anniversary. To mark the occasion, a publication has been developed which documents the momentus first two decades of our organisation.

In 1989, a Russian UN diplomat had a dream about a general assembly hall filled with young people discussing the major challenges facing humanity. The dream was so strong, that he decided to pursue it. Travels led him to meet people that advised and supported him in his effort to give meaning to this dream. A few months later, UNOY was created. In the 20 years since, the organisation has gone through many changes and developments, assisted by many dedicated peacebuilders. These two decades have been documented in 20 Years of UNOY, released in honour of the 20th Anniversary of UNOY Peacebuilders and available for download on our website. As well as the story of UNOY Peacebuilders thus far, 20 Years of UNOY also contains many anecdotes, quotes and testimonials from people associated with the organisation over the past 20 years. This includes current and former staff, board members, members, affiliates and participants from our many trainings and conferences. Readers will gain a colourful and multi-dimensional insight into the day-to-day workings of this non-profit organisation.

UNOY Peacebuilders' International Steering Group (ISG) consists of representatives from the member organisations, the board and the International Secretariat. The importance of the ISG is at best explained by the participation of six representatives from member organisations, one for each strategic geographical region, which permits the members, along with their needs, concerns and proposals, to be first in line at the UNOY decision-making level.
