UNOY Peacebuilders was present during the “UN, Now U” event in Amsterdam on May 26th 2010.

The event brought together more than 40 students interested in Model United Nations. The aim was to raise young peoples’ awareness in international politics and encourage them to become engaged.

The evening included a panel debate with distinguished professors and experts in international law and relations, as well as a presentation by UNOY Peacebuilders. A number of students approached UNOY Peacebuilders’ stand during the break for more information.

From the 25th to the 28th of January 2010, the meeting ‘Euro-Med Youth Policies on Intercultural Dialogue’ took place in Strasbourg as part of the preparation for the Anna Lindh Forum 2010. The meeting was co-organised by the Foundation’s headquarters in partnership with the Council of Europe and the European Commission. The meeting brought together twenty-five youth leaders and youth workers from the Anna Lindh National Networks and partners. A representative of UNOY Peacebuilders participated in the meeting and gave input from the perpsective of young peacebuilders working in the field of intercultural dialogue. The African Students’ Conference 2009, organized by the United Network of Young Peacebuilders (UNOY Peacebuilders) and The African Committee (TAC), was held on November 21st at the Peace Palace in The Hague. Participants were welcomed with a tropical welcome drink in the morning. Representatives of TAC and UNOY Peacebuilders emphasized the need for a more positive and constructive media coverage of the continent of Africa.

nullOn 21 September well over 240 school students throughout the Netherlands tried to solve present day existing conflicts in 8 different schools during a 2 hour long Simulation Peace Negotiation game under the empowering title: “Regel de Wereld Vrede” meaning: ‘Organise world Peace!’

UNOY Peacebuilders and Euro’s voor Vrede, together with a range of donor and development cooperation organisations, organised a day-long training in Conflict Analyses and gave background information to the conflicts prior to the day itself. The conflict regions discussed were Afghanistan, Bosnia, Cyprus, Uganda, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan and Western Sahara. There were also Diaspora youth from the regions present on the day to provide more insight on the life in those regions.

HIP
During the international day of peace on September 21 there will be a big peace-event organized at het Plein, next to the parliament building in the Hague.

The event will include a mix of serious topics during interactive debates and live entertainment with Pete Philly and Perquisite and DJ Billy the Klit.

Admittance is free, Afternoon program will be indoors.

Open Day The Hague
UNOY Peacebuilders participated in the Information Market at the Open Day for International Organisations in The Hague on Sunday, 20 September. The Open Day was organised by the municipality of The Hague as part of The Hague’s International Day of Peace celebrations.

On Tuesday, August 18, Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bukhari joined the UNOY Peacebuilders team for lunch. Sheikh Bukhari is currently traveling around Europe and using this opportunity to meet with different people and organisations. Sheikh Bukhari is a co-founder of the Jerusalem Peacemakers, an organisation based out of his hometown of Jerusalem. Additionally, he is the head of the Uzbeke community in Jerusalem and Sheikh of the Naqshabandian Religious method.

Summerschool
This year UNOY Peacebuilders is once more collaborating with the University of Utrecht in the organisation and implementation of the Summer School on Education for Peace and Human Rights. The content of the Summer School is organised around two main themes: one is the Culture of Peace and Nonviolence, and the other is the challenge of Peace Education. An atmosphere of openness, shared responsibility and co-operation will be promoted. Teaching and learning methods will be diverse, based on a broad concept of learning, including cognitive, affective, creative and elements of information and reflection.
