UNOY is conducting a survey as part of a short study-reflection exercise at UNOY Peacebuilders. It is intended for people who participated or are participating in youth organisations.

Your answers will support these efforts and help improve our knowledge and practice about youth organisations. We plan to publish a short article so as to inform the wider peacebuilding/ development/ Human Rights community about the importance of working with and supporting youth organisations. As a token of our appreciation we will raffle three (3) kits of educational resources among survey participants.

It will take you approximately 15-30 minutes. Please submit the survey by 15 September.

The information gathered will be processed and shared in publications in an aggregate manner, that is, your identity will remain anonymous unless previously agreed.

UNOY Peacebuilders organised in Kobuleti, Georgia, in co-operation with Academy for Peace and Development (Georgia), European Intercultural Forum e.V. (Germany) and Sadaka-Reut (Israel), ‘Together for Peace’ – Training Course on Conflict Management in International Youth Work. Young people travel all over the world for reasons of tourism, volunteering and (NGO) work. Our globe seems to be shrinking, becoming smaller and smaller for a whole generation that is having more exposure to other cultures than ever was the case before. Does this contemporary trend aid us in becoming true global citizens? What constitutes global citizenship? Is it a concept made up of universal values or does the definition lay in the hands of the West? How does global citizenship related to other aspects of globalisation? What responsibility do global citizens have in tackling injustice and inequality? These issues - and more - will be addressed in an engaging and interactive dialogue facilitated by Caecilia J. van Peski.

UNOY’s Projects Coordinator went to Colombia from 9-22 July. The first week she went to Cartagena to speak at the International Peace Education Conference “Learning to Read the World from Multiple Perspectives: Peace Education toward Diversity & Inclusion”, organized by UNOY’s Colombian member organization ‘Escuelas de Paz’ and the International Institute of Peace Education.

The United Nations’ Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) has granted Special Consultative Status to UNOY Peacebuilders at its Substantive Session of July 2010. The newly acquired status will allow UNOY Peacebuilders to engage in its future projects with the ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, as well as with United Nations Secretariat, programmes, funds and agencies.

UNOY Peacebuilders is looking for new International Steering Group representatives.

UNOY Peacebuilders attended the workshop Towards Joint European Advocacy on SCR1325 organised by the European Peace Liaison Office in Brussels. The resolution on Women, Peace and Security was adopted 10 years ago and the event was organised to bring together European organisations working on gender and peace to create an advocacy campaign and discuss plans of action leading up to the ten year anniversary.

Between 14-16 July 2010, The Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) held a three day training programme designed for young human rights defenders at the Clingendael Institute. The training provided hands-on workshops that examined issues surrounding indigenous human rights mechanisms, non-violent activism, working with the media, and how to obtain funding for such initiatives.
