Young Peace Brigades was established in 2003, we work to promote long-term development in poor communities in Ghana by working with local people, youth groups, non-governmental or governmental organizations or the two in collaboration. Acting in response to local requests for skills that are not available in the region, YPB engages young people on civic engagement activities and build a long lasting partnership with groups, communities by working towards a culture of peace and non-violence. However, in order to focus our efforts and thereby to maximize impact as well as our ability to network and learn from experiences, we concentrate our programme within five themes:
Arts and Activism
raises young people’s consciousness around social justice issues, planting the seeds for young people to understand oppression.
Education for Liberation
uses literature, drama, and discussions to explore the history and experiences of oppressed people in the world as well as the formal school system.
Compassionate Service
brings youth into direct contact with people in need, empowering youth to serve, not save, others whiles acquiring employable skills for the betterment of our collective future.
Health for empowerment
focuses on providing youth friendly services to rural vulnerable youth who lack access to information to sexual reproductive health issues. The program work with youth and community based groups.
Human Rights
YPB Youth Human rights workers provide effective advocacy for discriminated groups, legal aid and advice, training for local NGO workers, documentation and external representation, and promotion of good governance. In all our programmes we seek to work in areas of the greatest need, and we select as our local partners, organizations who represent, or prioritize the needs of the most disadvantaged groups in society. In particular we prioritize: Women --- Young People and Children.
