AEI-Open Windows is an Arab-Palestinian NGO affiliated to Pax Christi International and established in Bethlehem in 1986 by a group of Palestinian educators. Working with youth, women and educators, it is engaged in the field of community education to contribute to the general causes of participation in public life and in peace and justice; the building of a free, democratic and culturally pluralistic Palestine, and the sharing and communication of the daily life reality of Palestine with broader audiences. This is done by:
- Activating youth and developing youth leadership skills.
- Raising awareness about values, culture and identity.
- Training in effectively communicating Palestinian reality.
- Developing the capacity, sustainability and outreach of the organization.
There are 167 youth active in AEI and its activities reach about 1000 youth on a yearly basis.
Biggest succeses
- Being able to successfully maintaining a strong constituency at the AEI-Open Windows represented in its groups, is considered one of the biggest successes. There are several groups (kids group, preparatory and high school youth groups, university and post graduates youth groups, and women and parents groups). These groups' members are meeting on weekly meetings. These members are diverse in social, religious, economic and political backgrounds.
- A warm and friendly atmosphere that prevails among the AEI administration, staff and groups' members. Being able to create this big AEI family based on professional personal levels helps to strengthening the value of Christian and Moslem living together.
- One of the AEI most important projects called "Living in the Holy Land: Respecting Differences", which has been integrated in several schools in Bethlehem and Ramallah areas is considered to be one of the biggest successes. Regardless of the shortage of financial recourses, the project has been running for the tenth year.
