Conferences

Since its inception, UNOY Peacebuilders have organized several national, regional and international conferences. International Conferences where held in the Netherlands, India and Belarus. The last Global Conference took place in Vught, the Netherlands in 1999, prior to the Appeal for Peace Conference in the Hague. We plan to organize a Global Conference in 2010 to evaluate the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World (2001-2010).

The African Students' Conferences have been organized annually since 1999 at the Institute of Social Studies (ISS), The Hague. These conferences deal with critical issues of major concern in the field of advancing peace, justice and democracy in Africa. They have been flagship events to raise awareness and to promote interdisciplinary dialogue, research and action, stressing the role of culture, youth and civil societies. They create bonds of friendship and stimulate networking among young people from Africa, Africa with the Diaspora and North-South. They encourage students to bridge the gap between their studies and their plight to build peace in Africa, and to link up with the Diaspora youth in the Netherlands. The theme of the ASC in October 2007 was "Building peace in Africa:post-conflict reconstruction and reconciliation". We continue to plan this event choosing the subject to be discussed jointly with the African students of the ISS.
