In 2006 the United Network of Young Peacebuilders began a restructuring process under the
aegis of the Network Capacity Development Project. The aim was to strengthen coordination
among youth organisations working for peace and conflict transformation, synergizing their
initiatives and increasing the impact of their work. In October 2006, following extensive
research on the strengths and weaknesses of the network, an Expert Meeting was held in the
Netherlands that included UNOY Board members, current and former UNOY staff members and
representatives from UNOY member organisations. The outcomes of the research were discussed
and a proposal to restructure the network was passed.
The restructured network is divided into ‘members’ and ‘affiliates’ (see here). UNOY Peacebuilders has 34 member organisations in four geographical
regions – Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America – while a large number of youth groups,
organisations and individuals are included amongst our affiliates. Every year a new call for
membership is issued though our website and e-groups.
